A Stroke of Success

During the Covid pandemic, loneliness hit us hard. For Angela Yan, it was even more life-changing.

At that time——after nearly 20 years of working as a nurse——she suffered a stroke. She was living alone in San Francisco, discharged with a walker, and unable to receive visitors due to distancing. “It was the loneliest time of my life,” said Yan. “Co-living would have been amazing.”

Ever since, Yan has been sincere about fighting loneliness. “We have a loneliness epidemic,” she said. “People are becoming more strangers, and the way to longevity is having friends.”

Equipped with decades of caretaking experience and a passion for bringing together community, CoCasa was born. With three homes (and more coming) across Columbus, Ohio, Yan is hoping to help those in times of transition. Whether it’s a new city, new job, or new start, she’s on a mission to make co-living a lifestyle.

“Co-living is a great concept that should be brought back,” she said. “We have lost ourselves in not being social. I want to live in a happier world, and it’s possible if you’re never alone and you feel safe in your home.”
